Julian Xavier to Face Court for Alleged Murder of Brother
A 61-year-old man is in police custody in connection with the death of his 70-year-old brother, Stanilus Xavier, also known as “Ashely,” from Berricoa, Grandbay. On the evening of May 15, 2024, Stanilus Xavier was involved in an altercation with his brother, Julian Xavier, which resulted in serious head injuries. Reports indicate that Julian allegedly struck Stanilus with a piece of lumber during the incident.
Stanilus Xavier was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) with severe brain injury, acute bleeding, and a frontal head fracture. Despite undergoing emergency surgery, he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor on the morning of May 16, 2024.
Julian Xavier surrendered to the police at Police Headquarters on May 17, 2024. After an investigation, he was formally charged with the murder of his brother. He is expected to appear before the Roseau Magistrate Court on May 21, 2024. As murder is an indictable offense, Julian will not be required to enter a plea during this appearance, and the case will be tried before a judge and jury.
The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) has expressed condolences to the family of Stanilus Xavier. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
