Kempinski’s Cabrits Resort & Spa Opens in Dominica, First in the Caribbean

Kempinski’s Cabrits Resort & Spa opens in Dominica, first of its kind in the Caribbean. The 5-star resort was developed by the trio of Range Developments, Mohammed Asaria, and Kemal Shehada and funded with the country’s Citizenship by Investment programme.

Kempinski has the reputation of being the oldest luxury hotel brand in Europe. The hotel group has 76 exquisite hotel properties around the world, with the latest one just constructed and launched in Dominica, the first of such resorts in the entire Caribbean. The Cabrits Resort and Spa is a world-class spa and resorts facility with residences that cater to the personalized needs of top-tier customers.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit was at the opening ceremony and the three developers were also in attendance. Chief Operations Officer of the Americas Kempinski Hotels, Xavier Destribats, was equally at the occasion and several stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality industry were all there.

PM Skerrit said the launching of the Cabrits Resort and Spa facility is a further testament to the openness of the DLP government to developing the tourism and hospitality industry in the country with a view to emerging the best in the Caribbean.

“Dominica is well and truly opened for business, and the influx of investment which has fuelled the dynamism is here because this government went out and shared its vision with the world,” Skerrit said. “There is no bigger statement to make than the one which we are making today with the opening of this five-star resort: that Dominica is the new destination of choice, that Dominica is resilient; that Dominica is being transformed.”

One of the developers, Kemal Shehada, who was represented by his daughter, Rasha, said the new resort and spa facility has one of the most impressive architectural designs in the Caribbean. But going beyond the designs, the resort represents a dream come true since it is a legacy that will transcend many generations. According to Rasha, the project would make anyone to be proud to be a Dominican who has a true attachment to their roots.

Mohammed Asaria, the managing director of the resort, said its completion marks a wonderful conclusion to a 5-year construction project. He said the completion of the spa concided with the 41 years independence anniversary of the nation of Dominica, which means that true life is just about to begin for all Dominican citizens who will be the customers of the hotel.

With the announced construction of an international hotel in Dominica next year, PM Skerrit believes that patronage will also increase for Cabrits Resort and Spa.
