Kimra Charles is campaigning against breast cancer in women, and Melanie Charles is creating a voice for voiceless children in Dominica. Both ladies are contesting for Miss Dominica 2020 and would be using the platform to change the society for the better.
Kimra Charles of Fond Cole who was backed by Maxroy Trading stated that four men have reportedly died of breast cancer within the past decade. She said men are not exempted from breast cancer even though it is more common in women. Charles urged men to do routine check-ups so as to detect the disease early for better management.
“But my platform will be encouraging our men to be checked. A check today could save your boyfriends, your husband, father or son from a lifetime of pain,” she said.
Melanie Charles of Goodwill said her platform will be used to create a voice for voiceless children on the island. Planning to become a children ambassador, she stated that children are precious members of the society who could be vulnerable to unfortunate life situations in many circumstances.
“Many parents are not in a position to care for their children in the best possible way,” she stated. “And so their living conditions, diet, and hygiene become poor and this goes on to affect their schooling, education, mental and general physical health.”
