Opinion | Kleptocracy and greed in Dominica’s ruling party

The DLP’s ongoing mismanagement of the public trust—and public dollars—is possibly the greatest silent scandal which has been grappling Dominica in recent times.

The Hon. Lennox Linton has uncovered a discrepancy in the annual estimates of the budget year 2018-2019 whereby CBI revenue accounting showed a short-fall by at least a billion dollars.

At face value the said State financial record appeared riddled with a bookkeeping deficiency, irregularities, and errors.

But Mr. Skerrit, the Prime Minister of Dominica then cleared the thick air with confirmation that the unaccounted state revenue was diverted into an Escrow Account for the purpose of housing development.

Since then a mountain of citizens have risen in demand of Dominica’s Public Money, “where de money”. And there is evidence that the nation emotion is boiling at an accelerated rate in view of the DLP’s government failure to provide an explanation which is logical in law and accounts.

Predictably, the DLP government has since raced in an attempt to correct the problem after Hon. Linton sounded the alarm. But at least with a catastrophic failure, the CS Global Commissioned report (Price water-house coopers) of CBI spending on Housing has only infuriated the right-thinking people of Dominica as the diverted millions from Dominica’s Treasury has not been audited or accounted.

In view of the “land title scandal” bin bobol scandal” “fertilizer scandal” “monfared scandal” “Petro caribe 100 million question” “CBI revenue scandal” to name a few:

We hereby conclude that Dominica’s DLP leadership is packaged with corrupt politicians who use their political power to receive kickbacks, bribes, and special favors at the expense of the populace. They use their political leverage to manipulate the laws and its systems to protect and perpetuate their positions while they enrich their “boys club”.
