Launch of Build Back Equal Project in Dominica and the Windward Islands

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services in partnership with UN Women and UNFPA with funding from Global Affairs Canada, is currently implementing the the “Build Back Equal” project with in Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. This 4-year joint project will contribute to women’s economic resilience in the Eastern Caribbean by taking a comprehensive approach to addressing the barriers women face to economic empowerment and providing increased sustainable opportunities for women’s economic growth.

The project will support Governments and the private sector in four Eastern Caribbean countries to strengthen their capacities and access to financing to sustainably alleviate women’s unpaid care work burden through subsidized quality childcare. Additionally, the project aims to build sustainable, resilient livelihoods by increasing access to reliable financing and building capacities to effectively use the financing to grow MSME’s through environmentally friendly, climate and shock-resilient innovation.

To formally launch the project, in partnership with UN Women and UNFPA, the inaugural Regional Project Steering Committee Meeting supported by the Government of Canada will be officially launched. This will be one of the first visible actions of the programme as it gains momentum.

The meeting took place on Monday, 5th June 2023 at the Intercontinental Cabrits Resorts and Spa from 3:00pm. Cabinet members, Honorable Ministers of Gender Affairs from Saint Lucia, Grenada and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will be in attendance along with representatives from UN Women, UNFPA, UNICEF and other steering committee members.
