Lawyers Pay Tribute to Deceased Attorney-At-Law Kevin Williams

Members of the Dominica Bar Association and top lawyers from across the country and the Eastern Caribbean gathered to pay tribute to late attorney-at-law Kevin Williams. The departed was aged 58 and died in January in England after a brief illness. Williams was a legal specialist at Banking and Insurance Law and worked as a civil lawyer for 31 years.

Lawyers congregated at the High Court in Roseau to honour the memory of Williams, and the President of the Dominica Bar Association Heather Felix-Evans at a special sitting of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court on Tuesday also credited the deceased as a very generous and brilliant lawyer.

In Attendance of the event included:

  • Professor Randolph Williams – the deceased uncle
  • Heather Felix-Evans – president of the Dominica Bar Association
  • Candia Carette George – Chief Magistrate
  • Evelina Baptiste – Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)
  • Joelle Harris
  • Bernard Wiltshire
  • Julian Prevost
  • Stephen Isidore
  • Anthony Commodore
  • Ronald Charles
  • Duncan Stowe
  • Laurina Vidal-Telemacque
  • Cara Shillingford
  • Dawn Yearwood Stewart
  • Henry Dyer
  • Peter Alleyne
  • Justice Wynante Adrien-Roberts
  • Birnie Stephenson
  • Singoalla Blomqvist-Williams – Williams widow

All the lawyers who spoke at the event described late Kevin Williams as a true legal luminary.

“He was dependable and reliable,” said Duncan Stowe. “He knew the law. He was the law, and he lived the law.  I was even more convinced of his love for the law in his later years when he was faced with health challenges. I shed a tear for my brother’s departure. I shed a tear for the loss of a genuine soul. I shed a tear because one of my walking dictionaries on the law has left…he was someone whom I considered to be true, genuine and a friend.”

William’s widow, Singoalla Blomqvist-Williams, was teary when she thanked everyone for their tributes. She said her late husband represented the law in all its ramifications and was a dedicated advocate of the law. Other people within and outside the court also testified to how the deceased had impacted their lives and how he had carried on even when he was very ill.
