Lennox Linton Accuses the Govt of Unwillingness to Offer Stimulus Package

United Workers Party (UWP) leader and Marigot MP Lennox Linton has accused the Skerrit-led administration of insensitivity to the economic woes of the people in the face of the ongoing coronavirus lockdown. He said the government ought to provide an economic stimulus package to help the people live through the stay-at-home orders imposed by the government.

According to Linton, who is also the Opposition Leader in the House of Assembly, it is inconceivable that a government who spent millions of dollars on electioneering campaigns cannot offer economic palliatives to people who are locked down in their homes to prevent a spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He is even asking for where the over one billion dollars acquired by the government as the 2019-2020 national budget has gone to.

But in his Easter message to the nation, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said his government is working behind the scenes to provide support to Dominicans who have been impacted by the current coronavirus lockdown.

“In respect to those who have lost their jobs and whose businesses have been affected as a result of COVID19,” Skerrit said. “We are nearing the finalization of a package of measures and it is my hope that very soon I will be in a position to make an announcement to the nation.”
