Lennox Linton’s Brother Arrested & Released without Charge, UWP Reacts
UWP’s Lennox Linton’s brother, Brian Linton, was arrested early in the morning at his Marigot home and taken to police headquarters in Roseau for questioning. Witnesses said he was moved to the CID section where he was quizzed on incitement statements he made on November 8. Lennox Linton who said he was at the police headquaters with attorney David Bruney at 6 a.m. said his brother was later released without any charges.
Attorney Bruney was ready to file a bail application at the court immediately if Brian Linton was charged for incitement. Brian later addressed journalists and members of the UWP over the situation at the Prevo Cinemall. Lennox who was also at the conference condemned the arrest, saying the DLP was trying to intimidate members of the opposition into submission before the general election polls.
Lennox accused PM Roosevelt Skerrit of making calls for his kidnap and even killing in times past without any considering such statements as incitement. He condemned the police for turning their heads away and looking the other way when prominent members of the ruling party make incitements that could foment trouble in the polity. He also blamed President Charles Savarin for turning a blind eye to the injustices perpetrated by the Skerrit administration when he ought to have spoken out against it.
He said the fight against the UWP is a fight against the peoples of Dominica, saying the party stands for justice and peace for everyone in the country. He blamed the current government for making people to lose trust when it ought to have remained solidified their hopes in a truly representative government. He said he fears for everyone now since anything anyone says may be misconstrued to suggest criminal incitements.
