Lennox Linton Calls PM Skerrit a “Broken Man” over Kernisha’s Disappearance

UWP leader Lennox Linton and PM Roosevelt Skerrit are currently trading words over the disappearance of 12-year-old Kernisha Etienne. Linton said Skerrit is “a broken man” for alleging that the UWP is politicizing the disappearance of the young girl who went missing after his now-deceased uncle, Keyan Alexander, kidnapped her in Warner.

In a radio programme, Skerrit said the opposition has been politicizing the disappearance of Kernisha to score cheap political points while the government has deployed full state resources to locating her.

It is unfortunate that some are making this political. We are not surprised. This is how the UWP operates in Dominica. There is no genuine concern or care for anything human in Dominica by the opposition.

Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica

Linton in his reaction said “I am surprised that the Prime Minister can be making those statements,” saying Skerrit should take responsibility for being unable to locate and rescue the girl. He said the opposition party and activist groups across Dominica and the OECS have raised concern over the safety of the girl since the incident happened, and that the UWP among others have lent a helping hand to the search efforts.

The statement of the Prime Minister yesterday is a statement of a broken man, a man who is dissatisfied, is unhappy like the rest of us that the search has yielded no results so far, but he feels it in a way that he made himself the head of it. He is supposed to be the hero who finds Kernisha; and up to now, it hasn’t happened…and so he is feeling broken, he is downhearted and so he makes a very unfortunate statement.

The UWP leader said he remains committed to finding Kernisha and making Dominica a safe place for everyone. He blamed the police for refusing some able-bodied citizens to assist in the search efforts on the pretense that the civilians are not trained. He said all hands must be on deck to locate Kernisha now that Keyan died of gunshot wounds in police custody.
