The UWP’s Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton, has lamented the delay experienced by opposition parliamentarians in having their questions addressed on time. Linton said the leaders of parliament does not attend to the concerns brought by members of the opposition in time, and that irreparable damage would have been done by the time the leaders come round to it.
The UWP leader said it takes months before members of the opposition get responses to their queries from pro-government lawmakers. He bewailed the fact that by the time the parliamentary leadership gets to respond to the opposition’s queries, the answers would have become useless since events would have overtaken the queries.
For context, Linton explained that parliamentarians get notice of meeting 12 days before lawmakers convene; and that questions must be submitted through ministers 14 days before a parliamentary session. He clarified that opposition lawmakers are not able to submit questions for consideration at any particular session since the 12-day notice is shorter than the 14-day deadline that questions must reach ministers.
Meanwhile, a former Roseau Central Constituency candidate and UWP executive member, Glenroy Cuffy, has hailed Linton for representing the opposition well in Dominica. He said the opposition leader is a political force to reckon with in the country, and that PM Roosevelt Skerrit even respects the contributions of Linton to nation-building. He credited Linton with progressive development in parliament and across the nation, saying he is an inspiration to people everywhere.
