Lennox Linton May Step Down As UWP’s Opposition Leader
Lennox Linton may step down as UWP’s opposition leader. This fact is up for debate at the forthcoming convention of the party which is slated for the first quarter of this year, probably around March. This revelation was made by UWP General Secretary Nicholas George.
George said the political party will hold a general council meeting on January 19 where the actual date of the annual convention will be fixed for sometime in March. The leaders of the party will determine the way forward for the party given that it has lost two general elections.
Part of the deliberations at the general council and the subsequent convention may include the discussion for Linton to either continue as opposition leader or to step down for someone else. This is however up for debate or internal voting, George said.
“At the convention, as it happens in every instance, every position held by any person in leadership in the party is up for election,” he clarified.
It is not known whether Linton would like to step down if the matter comes up for debate by the party leadership. The UWP did not hold their convention in 2019 because they were busy preparing for the elections which came up later on December 6, 2019.
