Lennox Linton Re-Elected UWP Leader; Francesca Joseph Elected Deputy Leader

Lennox Linton remains the political leader of the UWP after the recently concluded delegates’ conference of the opposition party. Linton was re-elected unopposed, while Senator Francesca Joseph was elected as the party’s new deputy leader.

Joseph beat Ernie Jno-Finn and Clement Marcellin who also contended for the position of the deputy leader.

Due to health and safety protocols occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic, the delegates conducted their elections in four different locations, and then connected via Zoom. The locations were Roseau, Wesley, Layou Valley, and Castle Bruce.

UWP’s President, Isaac Baptiste, was also re-elected unopposed, but the party’s erstwhile VP, Hector John, failed to seek re-election. Ezekiel Bazil was the only contender for the position of the VP and he got it.

Glenroy Cuffy defeated Monelle Williams to become the UWP’s new Public Relations Officer (PRO) after Steve Benjamin lost the seat. Nicholas George remains the General Secretary since no one opposed him; but Ernie Jno-Finn was given Assistant General Secretary after losing the VP position to Joseph. Dr. McDonald Thomas emerged the new International Secretary for the party.

Alex Birmingham remains as the party Treasurer since no one contended the seat with him, but Kent Joseph was newly voted in as Assistant Treasurer. Meanwhile, party stalwarts such as Edison James, Norris Prevost, and Ron Green remain the trustees of the board for UWP.
