Lennox Linton Says his Covenant With UWP was not “Till Death Do Us Part”
Lennox Linton has revealed that his political covenant with the UWP was not “till death do us part”. The Marigot MP who resigned as the political leader of the UWP on Friday, September 30, remains the Parliamentary Leader of the Opposition and Parliamentary Representative of the Marigot Constituency.
Although Linton clarified that he stepped down as the political leader of the opposition party to facilitate change and pave way for responsible youths to rise within the party, he hinted of discord within the party. He made it clear that he suffered treachery and backstabbing from people within the party, but he remains strong and committed to the UWP agenda for Dominica.
Yes, there has been the infighting, the vilification from within, the backstabbing and the treachery, but I’m alive. I survived to stand aside, to continue to serve, committed to secure a course correction so that the leadership of the party going forward is protected from similar impediments to ensuring that Dominica is on the ballot, and not the parties and interests we define in mindless prejudice, of colors.

Having served as the UWP political leader for 9 years, Linton said the opposition would have risen to power again in Dominica if the present administration had provided a level playing ground for all political parties in the country. He added that the division within the UWP has helped to make the DLP stronger in remaining in power and that that must change.
If there is no enemy within, the enemy outside can do us no harm. A house divided under itself cannot stand, and it is in the balance between democratic freedoms and the discipline for collective leadership responsibility that eludes us from time to time. Let this be a moment of new energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to the movement for change that is to be, the change that begins between you and me.

Prominent Dominican leaders and political parties have praised Linton for serving the country creditably well through the UWP. The DFP, NJAM, Joshua Francis, Thomson Fontaine and others thanked Linton for all he has done for the party. In the interim, the Deputy Political Leader, Senator Francisca Joseph, has been appointed by the Management Committee to serve as the political leader of the UWP.
