Licensed Hunters Can Now Hunt Wildlife Games Between Now and November 30
Licensed hunters can now hunt wildlife games between this period and November 30. This is because the Forestry, Wildlife and Parks Division of the Ministry of Environment has approved the temporary resumption of hunting as from October 16 to November 30. Only licensed hunters are permitted to hunt approved species and interested persons can obtain their own licenses at the appropriate quarters before embarking on hunting activities.
Licensed hunters are permitted to hunt crabs, manicou, agouti and rammier. No one is permitted to hunt any birds, iguanas, mountain chicken, crayfish, mullets, shrimps and freshwater crabs among other freshwater species since these remain strictly prohibited.
Apart from the licensed hunting activities within the stated period, it is an offence for anyone to export wildlife from Dominica without obtaining the appropriate licenses. Anyone caught doing so is liable to a fine or imprisonment upon conviction by the relevant authorities.
Interested members of the public who desire to acquire hunting and fishing permits can do so at the office of the Forestry and Wildlife Division located at Windsor Park road, and also at the sub-treasuries in Portsmouth and Marigot. The Ministry of Environment urges the general public to make the best use of Dominica’s natural resources and assist the government with sustaining the laws regarding its use in hunting and preservation.
The total numbers of licensed hunters are currently unknown since many people are still registering their interest and obtaining the required hunting permits.
