Lennox Linton has been sworn in as opposition leader. He was sworn in before President Charles Savarin at the State House on February 7. Several media outlets covered the event and it was also made public on social media. Four other UWP members were also sworn in as senators at the resumption of the House of Assembly.
The parliamentary representative for Marigot constituency and UWP stalwart swore to “faithfully” serve as the Opposition Leader without fear or favour, and “solemnly” vowed to “honour, uphold and preserve” the constitution of Dominica without affection or ill-will.
The UWP leader was sworn in as opposition leader on September 1, 2013 in Castle Bruce and has served two terms in office. The UWP lost the 2019 general elections to the DLP on December 6 in a landslide loss of 3-18.
In a subsequent development, former Roseau Central MP Joseph Isaac has been sworn in as the new Speaker of the House of Assembly, replacing Alix Boyd-Knights who occupied the position for 18 years but is now a Speaker Emeritus. Boyd-Knights grand-son, Philip Rolle, was also sworn in as Deputy Speaker when the First Session of the 10th Parliament reconvened yesterday since its dissolution for the December 6, 2019 general elections.
