Linton Promises to Give Every Family $25,000 If Elected; Skerrit Responds

Lennox Linton promised every Dominican family $25,000 if the UWP wins the coming general elections slated for December 6. He first made the promise on November 8 in Roseau and repeated it again on November 11 at Salybia during the launch of Anette Sanford. He said the national cake will fall from the $1.2 billion CBI funds which the DLP administration allegedly stashed away for personal gain.

Critics raised eyebrows when Linton first made the promise in Roseau, but he seized his opportunity in Salybia to clarify his position, saying the money belonged to every individual in Dominica and they must enjoy the money once the UWP comes into government. He said if the opposition had not detected the discrepancy of the missing $1.2 billion; the loot would have gone into the private pockets of DLP leaders.

“So we will ensure that once that money is returned at least $25,000 will go to each household in the Commonwealth of Dominica,” Linton disclosed. “This money belongs to every single Dominican and all the families of Dominica, and all the households in Dominica will benefit from it.”

Linton said the money will boost the economy of individual families across the island, and this will show the people that national monies belong to the people. He pledged that his party will recover the missing fund and redistribute it to the people.

“That is our pledge and that is how we will go forward,” Linton pledged. “We will find the people’s money where the people’s money has been hidden or diverted and we’ll return that money to the people of Dominica.”

But Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit used the opportunity of launching DLP candidate Denise Charles for the Soufriere constituency to respond to Linton. He asked how the opposition will generate money for national development if they spent their imagined recovered loot on people in one day.

“You give every family $25,000…what happens the next day, what happens in the next five years when you spend the money in one day?” Skerrit demanded.

According to skerrit, the UWP had always opposed his “Red Clinic” or “The Rapid Respond Agency” initiative everytime he applied for parliamentary approval. Meanwhile, he spends considerable amount of time in people’s homes to learn how they live and fair while the opposition does nothing beyond making empty noises.

The prime minister revealed he had raked up over $40,000 of his personal savings in overdraft at the National Bank of Dominica to help out the poor and needy through the Public Assistance Program, something the opposition cannot think of or appreciate.
