Linton’s Wife Throws Her Weight behind Her Husband for Leadership
Shirley Linton, wife of UWP’s Lennox Linton, said her husband is the best man to lead the country at this time. She said that her husband’s involvement in politics affects her family in many ways, but he must be supported because he can be trusted with the lives of Dominicans everywhere.
Having remained married for 35 years, Shirley said Linton is an exemplary father and a core family man. She said his sense of humour is unparalled, and his care for family and everyone in his community in palpable. She went further to state that she remains married to him because they both share virtues of honesty, humility and respect for people. She noted that Linton has made huge sacrifices for people and the entire Dominicans at large.
Shirley recounted that her husband has faced many persecutions and threats on account of his fight for justice and equality. She said her husband is facing so much opposition because of his courage and commitment “to make Dominica the best place where we can all live, work and enjoy life.”
Meanwhile, UWP candidate for the Petite Savanne constituency, Rosanna Emmanuel, said her party will be proposing a new foreign policy that will produce immediate economic results in the country. She also said her party aims to engage Dominicans in the diaspora to construct a mutually beneficial network that will enable those outside the country to contribute meaningfully to the growth of Dominica.
To this end, she noted that the party will create a database of Dominicans in the diaspora with a view to tapping into their skills and competencies to develop the country. According to her, this will align the country to the UN Sustainable Goal on partnerships and development for each sector of the economy.
Emmanuel also added that “we will ensure that 50% of the jobs on projects funded by grant financing are done by Dominican nationals and 75% on projects funded through loan financing.”
