Lions and Leo Clubs of Dominica Annual Installation of Officers

On Saturday, 26 June 2021, members of the Dominica Lions and Leo Clubs held their annual Installation of Officers Ceremony at the Great Old Stone under the theme “Serving with Renewed Commitment and Love”. Outgoing Lion President Junior Toussaint highlighted that Covid19 is the new reality which impacted the plans outlined for the year. However, the club was able to accomplish a few activities such as assisting with bottled water and monetary contribution to St. Vincent, shoe box project to chances during Christmas and repainting the roof of the Abilities Unlimited with the help of the Leo members. A partnership with Oceans Forward and Blue Word Research Institute for the construction of a Training Facility at Rosalie is also currently ongoing.  He pledged his unwavering support to the new board as they chart a new way forward for the club.

Leo Lisana Dyer, outgoing president was applauded for her great leadership during her tenure. In her address she remarked “I was adamant in ensuring that the 2020-2021 Leoistic year was eventful and productive.” The Club, through its various committees, was able to achieve several small scale activities which were impactful. Activities included  a prize giving ceremony for the Junior Calypso Monarch held in 2020, donation of a food hamper to an elder, Jazz & Art Concert and the annual christmas party at St. Lukes Primary School.

Incoming club presidents are Lion Janice Hypolite and Leo Eamon Gibbons. Featured speaker Mrs. Delia Cuffy-Weekes reminded the club members “to not underestimate the value of what you can share with others, be it your time, talent or your treasure.” She went on further to encourage them to identify a cause which resonates with them and take action. According to Mrs. Weekes “there are benefits associated with choosing a life of service, such as gaining a sense of self-accomplishment and motivation”. It is also important to take “a break from work to get involved in your community will help you avoid depression and isolation.” As she ended her address, she urged club members to execute service activities with the right attitude because this will determine the response received from those being served.

Each club welcomed one new member to the Pride with Lion Deborah Peter and Leo Mawusi Burton. The new board of officers for both Lions and Leos will serve for the period 2021-2022.
