Lockdown Extended By A Further Two Weeks, With Curfew Hours Shortened

The existing lockdown has been extended by another two weeks, with curfew hours shortened to facilitate movement. The government extended SRO No. 15 for a further two weeks while various sectors of the economy are being re-opened slowly.

According to Minister of Health, Dr. Irving McIntyre, there will be complete lockdown from Mondays to Fridays between 7pm and 5 am, and another lockdown from Saturdays to Mondays from 6pm to 5am. He urged members of the public to consider the relaxed lockdown and curfew as crucial for maintaining public health and social measures around the country.

The government has also allowed law and accounting firms on the island to re-open while discussions are ongoing on re-opening other businesses across the country. By May 18, McIntyre said the government will make further announcements regarding re-opening more businesses since this date will mark the completion of a third cycle with no new COVID-19 cases in the country.

“Complete reopening of schools and churches can only be done if there is firm evidence of the absence of community transmission,” he said.

The health authorities have also commenced a one-week community testing and survey programme which the government said would be necessary for determining that no asymptomatic person is incubating the disease at the moment.
