Lockhart-Hypolite Says Yachting Will Create Robust & Diverse Tourism Industry
The parl-rep for Roseau South Constituency, Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite, has revealed that the burgeoning yachting sector will create a robust and diversified tourism sector in the country. She said more jobs will be created for the youths and internally-generated revenue will get a boost from the upcoming initiative.
She said the immense success of the last Creole event has necessitated the need for a yacht registry for the sector. She stated that many yachts came into Dominica during the celebrations and there was hardly enough space to accommodate them all. She disclosed that the Ministry of Tourism has committed to investing in the yachting sector by constructing more marinas for the needs of yachts, cabin cruisers, and other pleasure craft.
After we announced the measures of the factory for pleasure craft and yachts, we saw sometime in October when we had the last Creole festival, Mr. Speaker, the number of yachts that came in into the New Town area. We did not have enough moorings to accommodate the yachts and the pleasure craft that came in, and that is one of the investments that the Ministry of Tourism has committed to building to ensure more craft come into our shores…

The parliamentary representative said she is personally interested in seeing the yachting and tourism sector blossom in the next few months; and that a few personalities and organizations have indicated their interest to be of help in this regard.
