Man Arrested in Connection With the Death and Wounding of Another in Fab
Police authorities have arrested an individual in connection with the death and wounding of another in Fab. The incident occurred on Sunday morning following what eye-witnesses said was a family dispute. A man, Simbert Baron, was shot in the chest with a fishing spear gun and another, Ayoka Baron, was slashed across the throat with a sharp cutlass.
Both Simbert and Ayoka were rushed off to the Grandbay Health Centre where the medical doctor pronounced Simbert dead on arrival. An autopsy has been ordered to be conducted on the body. Ayoka was transferred to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital where he is being treated for his injury.
The police ruled the incident a homicide and said no stone would be left unturned in getting to the root of the matter. Police PRO Simon Edwards said investigations are ongoing and the public will be carried along as more details emerge.
Family members of both Simbert and Ayoka have spoken up, saying the dispute was fueled by jealousy. Ayoka’s aunt said the situation soured the Mother’s Day celebrations for her family and entire community, and urged the police to ensure that justice is done.
