McIntyre Expresses Satisfaction with Incoming Flights after Borders Reopened

The Minister of Health, Dr. Irving McIntyre, has expressed satisfaction with the passenger flights that came into the country after borders reopened. The first flight that came into the country brought six Dominican nationals and none of them tested positive to the dreaded COVID-19 disease. Other flights are billed to come into the country too, and cruise ships have also been cleared to begin docking at the island ports.

McIntyre credited the hassle-free arrival and disembarkation of the air passengers to the readiness of the health ministry, and airport officials who ensured there was no hitch whatsoever for people coming into the country. The health minister had already announced that anyone coming into the country will be tested for coronavirus and isolated or quarantined if they test positive to the disease.

This morning we had our first flight, we had six passengers coming in and everything went as it was supposed to. It was a very smooth organization this morning, everything went as planned.

He credited airport workers for a job well done, adding that they must intensify their efforts to see that no infected passenger slips through their hands into the country. He said airport authorities and health officials must remain vigilant since people might still import COVID-19 into the country, emphasizing that social and health protocols must remain enforced at all times.

The government also made it clear that incoming passengers will be screened on arrival and they must wear face masks before leaving their plane or ships. They also urged airlines to introduce electronic boarding passes in advance so that physical distancing could be observed as frequently as possible.

Temperature screening will be implemented at entry points at the Douglas-Charles Airport, Canefield Airport and LongHouse Port during the first phase of reopening. Airlines will be encouraged to introduce electronic boarding passes in advance from home and hotel to reduce the number of person-to-person interaction where possible.
