Indian fugitive and billionaire jeweler, Mehul Choksi, has granted a 3-part exclusive interview with Q95FM’s Loftus Durand. It would be the first interview he would grant since his bail in Dominica and return to Antigua and Barbuda where he holds a CBI citizenship. The full interview is scheduled to air on Q95FM radio as from Friday.
In the interview, Choksi detailed how he took over his father’s jewelry business 45 years ago and how the business has thousands of branches worldwide. He talked about the situations that warranted his exit from India on charges of bank fraud and how he was kidnapped in Antigua and brought by boat to Dominica. He also spoke about his arrest and detention in Dominica as well as his deteriorating health and business decline.
“I entered the business in 1977, so you can that that I have been in business for about 45 years and the company has a very good reputation in India,” Choksi said. “And it was one of the leading companies…it started as a diamond mining and trading and grew to more than 4,000 outlets all over the world…it was a listed company and very successful until I left India for my medical surgery…end of 2017 that I left for America…”
