Met Office Warns Tropical Wave Could Hit Dominica and Lesser Antilles

The Dominica Meteorological Service has issued a warning that a tropical storm is on its way and could hit the country and the Lesser Antilles shortly. It is projected that the tropical wave could hit between Thursday evening and Friday midday.

The Met Office reported that the wave is currently building and it could cause reduced shower activity in its path. Small clouds are also expected to move with the wind, leading to cloudy skies and few drizzly rains over the next day.

People in the Lesser Antilles could also experience a strong tropical wave that is currently gathering momentum over the far Eastern Atlantic. The impact of this could possibly be felt early next week.

It is predicted that while the chances of the tropical wave occurring in the next two days are very minimal, it could pick up pace over the next five days. The seas are also expected to rise slightly in the next 24 hours with waves rising as much as 7.0 feet.

“A broad area of shower and thunderstorm activity is associated with a tropical wave located several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands,” the National Hurricane Center reveals. “Little to no development of the wave is expected for the next few days while it moves westward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic Ocean at about 15 mph. Environmental conditions are forecast to become more conducive for development over the weekend and a tropical depression could form by early next week several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles.”

These weather alerts are to advise residents on what to expect and how to respond to weather changes in the atmosphere and the seas with a view to safeguarding lives and property in the event of a hurricane.
