In a momentous ceremony, the government of Dominica marked the commencement of the Chatwell feeder road rehabilitation project in Bellevue Chopin, a critical initiative funded by the European Union Development Fund. The endeavor, valued at over $6 million, aims to empower local farmers by providing them with a reliable transportation network, subsequently boosting the nation’s agricultural sector and overall resilience.
Minister for Public Works, Hon. Fidel Grant, underscored the significance of this project, emphasizing its substantial benefits for the local farming community. The rejuvenated feeder road promises to streamline transportation, reduce vehicle wear and tear, and minimize in-transit damage to fresh produce. Minister Grant stated, “This is not just a feeder road; it is our road to creating sustainable employment for our youth… and it is important that I point out to you that while the world is going through difficult times, we are here investing $6.3 million for farm access roads.”
Furthermore, Minister Grant highlighted the road’s strategic importance as a bypass during the Loubiere-Bagatelle rehabilitation project, funded by the government of the United Kingdom. He detailed the scope of work for the Chatwell feeder road rehabilitation, with two contracts awarded to address the Pichelin and Bellevue Chopin ends separately.
Under this ambitious program, the government has already allocated over $20 million for the revitalization of eight feeder roads across the island, from Calibishie to Grandbay. These successes signify significant progress toward a more resilient and prosperous Dominica.
With an anticipated completion time of just four months, the Chatwell feeder road rehabilitation project is a testament to Dominica’s unwavering commitment to bolstering its agricultural sector and enhancing its transportation infrastructure.
