Minister of Housing Calls for Peace and Unity Across the Country In 2020
Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Reginald Austrie, has called for peace and unity across the country in the new year. The senior government official said there is no way for the country to move forward if everyone in the country does not embrace peace and progress. He said all hands must be on deck for the nation to enjoy true peace and witness visible development.
According to Austrie, the December 6, 2019 general elections brought a lot of divisions to the people. But this is 2020 and people must put 2019 behind them and work together to facilitate growths across board. He said no one should be divided along party lines, but all must be unified to push the nation forward.
“I want to ask Dominicans to please, let us leave 2019, let’s leave that behind us,” Austrie urged. “Much has happened then, but we’re over that now. Let us all focus on Dominica because whatever Dominica achieves, it will be an achievement for the entire country.”
The minister said Dominica is now a visible and active member of the OECS and CARICOM among others, and that the international community is watching to see how the people unite to push the nation forward. He said no one must sit idle or play the blame game, but that they must work hard in 2020 to make the country the best in the region and in the entire Caribbean.
Although the opposition led by Lennox Linton said the UWP will not recognize the new DLP administration, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has extended a hand of fellowship to everyone in the country and revealed he will be working with the opposition to advance the nation.
“We are one people; this is our country Dominica. Let us all work together to build a dynamic Dominica,” Skerrit stated. “I extend a hand of brotherhood to you and invite you to work in peace with the government and initiatives that will advance the national interest.”
The UWP, however, is yet to accept that hand of friendship, but has petitioned the courts to nullify election results in 10 constituencies across the island.
