Minister seeks government-private partnership for developmental projects in Dominica. Minister for Urban Renewal, Joseph Isaac, at a recent Dominica Business Forum (DBF) pre-budget discussion conference, iterated the government’s eagerness to partner with the private sector on major developmental projects. Isaac made the revelation at the DBF meeting which held at the Fort Young Hotel recently.

The minister stated that he had been holding talks with the Prime Minister on how to execute more developmental projects in the country. He said the Prime Minister is eager to see the private sector take the lead in initiating and implementing developmental projects across board. The projects include the marina in Roseau, the parking space, and hotel development in the Caribbean country.

Isaac said the Prime Minister has also been carrying the entire Cabinet along in the drive to execute social growth and physical development. Talking of the tourism and hospitality sector, Isaac said the government wants more people to get involved in the hotel business since the island country makes significant revenue from tourism. He added that the government is looking into poverty alleviation programs that will increase participation in the agricultural sector as well.

We are also looking at urban renewal in the context of poverty alleviation and not just infrastructure,” Isaac said, “urban renewal in terms of reduction of crime, in regards to giving our people on the block the opportunity to get involved in urban agriculture.

Most Dominicans Want the Government to Do More Work Than Talk

The minister for urban renewal was equally particular on general cleanliness and landscape beautification for the entire country. Considering that Dominica aims to be entirely climate compliant soon, Isaac said the government desires collaborations with grassroots influencers such as churches, mosques, local families and entire communities in various parts of the country. Several Dominicans however want the government to do more than talk. They want real action this time around and less of propaganda. While critics turn their noses at most of the politicians, most citizens believe the government has the best interest of the masses at heart.
