National Security Minister Commends Outgoing Chief, Welcomes Valerie as Interim

Davidson Valerie has been confirmed to take over as the acting Chief of Police from January 1, 2024, for a three-month term. This announcement comes as the current Chief of Police, Daniel Carbon, is set to begin his pre-retirement leave at the end of 2023.

The decision, made public by National Security Minister Rayburn Blackmoore, marks a significant change in the police force’s leadership. Minister Blackmoore lauded Carbon for his 39 years of dedicated service, calling him a “national hero” who led the force through challenging times.

Valerie, praised for his intelligence and investigatory expertise, will assume the responsibilities as the nation heads into the New Year. The National Security Minister expressed optimism for Valerie’s tenure and called for the police force’s support in his forthcoming initiatives, which include a robust law enforcement strategy to tackle current issues.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Corbette, the Deputy Chief of Police, will continue in his substantive role. Corbette, who previously acted in Carbon’s absence for over a year, will now work alongside Valerie to maintain stability within the force.

As the community prepares for this transition, Minister Blackmoore emphasized the importance of discipline and competence in policing—a legacy that Chief Carbon is highly respected for. Davidson Valerie is expected to engage with the media early in the New Year to outline his vision and strategic direction for the police force during his acting period.

The government wishes both Carbon and Valerie well in their respective new chapters, as one steps back after a long career and the other steps up to lead. The law enforcement community and its partners are looking forward to this new phase of leadership under Valerie’s acting chief tenure.
