National Team Leaves Dominica for World Cup Qualifiers in Dominican Republic
The Dominican national men team leaves the country for a World Cup qualifiers match in the Dominican Republic on Monday. Assistant Coach Colin Bernard expressed confidence that the team will qualify for the World Cup tournament given their level of preparation and excellent sportsmanship.
The team will face-off with Anguilla and Barbuda on Wednesday and also tackle Barbados next week Tuesday.
Dominica’s top striker and leading goalscorer, Julian Wade, agreed with Bernard that the national team will make the country proud in the Dominican Republic. He told journalists at the Windsor Parks Sports Stadium on Saturday that the team is well trained and in top shape for the qualifier games.
Javid George of Sagicor South East and Fitz Jolly of Happy Bath Estate football clubs also expressed hopes that the national men team will give a good account of themselves at the competition. They said the team understands their opponents very well and are very prepared to teach them a thing or two about football.
The government remains supportive of the national men team and other major sports teams across the country, and is committed to raising the standards of sports in Dominica.
