The National Youth Rally commemorating the 41st independence anniversay of Dominica holds at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. Dionne Durand Smith, a communications specialist with the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, said the celebrations will begin in the late morning of November 1 and for the better part of the day.
Meanwhile, schools in the Northern District participated in the Northern District Youth Rally with Portsmouth Secondary School putting up an attractive performance. The school engaged in a march-past activity that endeared them to all spectactors, with the school’s main speaker and secretary sharing her experience with the old nursery rhyme, “Itsy Bitsy Spider”.
The secretary said she learnt a lot from the rhyme, which tells the story of how a spider achieved its goal by taking an alternative route and not giving up in the face of life challenges. She also shared the importance of taking each day at a time, adding this is the best way to reach one’s goals in the face of unrelenting challenges.
In a related development, Ms. Isaac emerged as the valedictorian of the University of West Indies Open Campus, beating all odds along her way to attain her academic objectives. She encouraged other undergraduates and people in all walks of life to strive ahead and not be deterred by temporary inconveniences, saying this is the only way to become an achiever in life and a leader in the society.
