NCCU Awards 19 Scholarships to Deserving Students: Empowering the Youth for a Bright Future

Nineteen students have been granted scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year by the National Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU) Limited, enhancing their educational prospects. The annual scholarship presentation ceremony took place at the Public Service Union (DPSU) Building, where students received scholarships based on merit and need, extending for five years. These scholarships honor credit union pioneers who have rendered exceptional service to the cooperative movement.

President of the NCCU, McDowill Paul, highlighted the credit union’s commitment to enhancing the academic development of these students, expressing the total number of scholarship recipients at 81, with 62 continuing their education from the 2nd to the 5th form and 19 entering the 1st form.

The NCCU’s scholarship program for the 2022-2023 academic year exceeded $89,000, covering textbooks, school supplies, uniform allowances, school fees, transportation allowances, and examination fees.

Acting Chief Executive Officer, Curth Charles, emphasized the importance of a good education as the foundation for any chosen career path. He encouraged students to maintain a positive attitude, work diligently, participate in school activities, and stay focused on their studies.

Charles urged parents and guardians to actively support their children’s education and emphasized the importance of showering them with love and encouragement. He expressed confidence in the students’ abilities to excel in their studies and extracurricular activities.

Charles also underscored the NCCU’s commitment to supporting community development and providing financial services that enhance the quality of life, evident in their brand tagline, ‘Your Community Financial Partner.’

McDowill Paul and Curth Charles both addressed the students and parents with words of support and encouragement. The NCCU aims to contribute not only financial support but also love and guidance to help students succeed in their educational journey.

The NCCU remains dedicated to improving the quality of life for the young minds in the community, particularly the children of its members, by providing essential financial support to help them achieve their full potential in secondary school education.
