NDFD Gifts AJ with a Computer; and HEDY Gifts School Pupils with Supplies
The National Development Foundation of Dominica (NDFD) has donated a desktop computer to the Junior Achievement (JA) Dominica. Burglars broke into the shared office of JA in January 2020 and carted away their computer among other valuables. Naomi Romain-St. Jean, a staff with NDFD and a board member with JA facilitated the donation of the computer which replaces the one stolen earlier this year.
In a related development, Helping Educate Dominica Youths (HEDY) also donated school backpacks and other academic materials to pupils of Giraudel Primary School and Morne Prosper Primary School. HEDY was founded as a NGO by Cheryl Plummer and her friends in 2011 to help the less privileged with their education.
The motto of HEDY is “To provide the less fortunate students of Dominica with basic school supplies to help gain equal opportunity at an education through the help of donations” and the organization has been working by that guiding philosophy since inception nine years ago.
According to Ms. Plummer, HEDY selects one or two schools to provide school supplies to annually, and this year it is the turn of Giraudel and Morne Prosper primary schools. A total of 25 students from both schools were gifted with backpacks loaded with school supplies.
Bouyon artist Asa Banton is another well-known philanthropist reputable for donating school supplies to primary school pupils across the island.
