Netball, Tennis, Volleyball, and Basketball Court Opened At Windsor Park Stadium

Hard courts that will facilitate the games of netball, tennis, volleyball, and basketball have been inaugurated at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. The sports facility was commissioned on June 6 by PM Roosevelt Skerrit, MP for the Roseau Central Constituency, Hon. Melissa Skerrit, and Minister of Sport and Community Development, Hon. Roselyn Paul among other top dignitaries.

Melissa Skerrit expressed joy at the completion and commissioning of the sports facility which is fully equipped with lightings, bleachers, and other major fixtures. She said the determination of the DLP administration to complete the hard courts despite the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the country. She disclosed that the government has invested heavily in the facility for the sake of the youths in Dominica.

“Dominica can continue to hold its head high with the way it continues to come through in this particular difficult period for the entire world, and the construction of this courts at the stadiums fore ground will facilitate the development of tennis, volleyball, basketball and netball,” Melissa Skerrit. “Indeed we are confident that it well help ignite a sporting revolution not just within the city but throughout the whole country.”

Sports Minister Roselyn Paul said the hard courts for netball, tennis, volleyball, and basketball will foster national unity and build strong communities. According to her, sports is essential to building a dynamic and more integrated Dominica and would help youth mobilization in the country. She added that the government continues to promote sports through the development of recreational facilities in the Roseau Central constituency and across the entire country.

“Sports contributes towards the development of intergroup togetherness, social cohesion, community empowerment, building sustainability, building positive social capital, and addressing social issues such as our own health and wellbeing,” Paul disclosed. “It is our belief that the development of infrastructure should align with the needs of the community in order to realize sustainability.”

PM Skerrit went on to thank the Roseau Central MP and the sports minister for the realization of the hard courts at the Windsor stadium. He added that the opening of the sports facility in Roseau will spur a rapid growth for the capital city.
