New Cohort of 60 Joins Dominica Police Force for Six-Month Program
According to Acting Police Chief Davidson Valerie, sixty recruits have completed their six-month training to join the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF). The 44 males and 15 females took their oaths of office on December 6, 2024, at police headquarters.
Following the ceremony, the recruits were transported to Jimmit, where the training program will be conducted. Valerie also confirmed an additional officer is expected to join the cohort shortly, bringing the total to 60. “I wish the officers well and a successful six months of training,” he remarked.
Minister for National Security Rayburn Blackmoore has emphasized improvements in training, particularly in effective report writing and crime scene management. Earlier this year, he stated, “The government is ensuring that evidence collection is not compromised and all the fundamentals that may affect a case are addressed.”
He also highlighted plans to utilize local talent, including a retired police superintendent, to conduct specialized lectures on evidence collection and documentation.
This year’s cohort follows the record-setting April 2022 induction of 51 recruits—38 males and 13 females—the largest in the CDPF’s history. The government’s commitment to strengthening the police force continues to reflect its focus on improving law enforcement capabilities in Dominica.
The current training program aims to ensure recruits are equipped with the necessary skills to serve and protect the nation effectively.
