New Female Mayor of Portsmouth, Kerry Prince, Highlights Development Plans

Ms. Kerry Breedy Prince has emerged as the new mayor of Portsmouth. She has been sworn in as mayor and as a member of the town council. This is the first time Prince would serve as mayor of the town and she was elected at the Glanvillia ward.

The new mayor thanked everyone who voted for her, saying their votes were a representation of their trusts in her. Born and raised in Portsmouth, Prince said her development priorities are executing the Bedford Street Project, re-establishment of the Portsmouth Town Council Office, completing the Sidewalk Rehabilitation Project, remodelling the Michael Douglas Boulevard, and renovating storm drains in the town to prevent flooding during storms.

The new town leader also stated that her administration will focus renewed attention on repackaging annual carnivals, promoting sports and cultural activities, instituting business training programmes, and establishing functional bus-stops at the Borough Square. Prince also plans to re-invigorate the tourism sector with a view to attracting tourists to the town. According to her, her doors are wide open to welcome development ideas from progressive members of the town.

Prince said members of the community must play their parts by paying their taxes in time and cooperating with the town leadership to move Portsmouth forward.

“We must ensure that we pay our taxes in order to assist the council in getting your numerous requests attended to; we must ensure that we play our part and keep our town clean and beautiful,” she stated. “It is ours to preserve. Consider it as just a little way of you playing your part. I am aware of the economic challenges not just nationally but globally, but remember that little is plenty when God is in it! We all have to do our part!”
