New Fuel Prices: Petrol $7.38, Diesel $6.44, Kerosene $4.99, and LPG $24.43
Director of Trade and Commerce, Matthan Walter, has announced the reduction in fuel prices across Dominica as from Monday, May 18, 2020. The new fuel prices cut across gasoline (petrol), diesel, kerosene, and Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG).
Walter said the government was forced to bring down the pump prices of these essential fuels because of the oil glut in the world market. He said many countries are not able to sell the crude oil they produce as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and this as caused an excessive amount of oil and gas to accumulate in vessel ships on the seas.
With the decrease in the demand for oil comes the decrease in the prices of oil products as a direct result of the glut. To this end, the new prices of oil products will be much lower than has been obtainable in the last few years.
“Effective Monday, the 18th day of May 2020, the price of petroleum products across the board will be significantly reduced when compared to regulated prices over the last few years,” Walter said. “Gasoline will reduce from $9.79 per gallon to $7.38. Diesel will be reduced from $9.21 per gallon to $6.44. Kerosene will be reduced from $7.92 to $4.99 per gallon.”
A 20lbs of household gas or LPG usually used for cooking in family households is now reduced to $24.43 in Roseau and not higher than $26.23 in other regions across the island.
A cross-section of the country has expressed delight at the reduced fuel prices and thanked the government for responding to the daily needs of the people.
