New Mahaut Primary School to Be Built Instead of Renovation – PM Skerrit

The government has pledged to construct a new Mahaut Primary School instead of renovating the old structure. PM Roosevelt Skerrit revealed that he had instructed a new construction design to be carried out for the new school, and that the design will include improvements on the recreational facilities in the school.

“I have given the green light for this, that we should pursue this new Mahaut Primary School instead of the renovations that were envisaged,” Skerrit said. “We need to demolish the school and to build a modern facility that is more conducive to learning, improve on the playing facilities and once we can finalize the designs we will present it to you.”

According to him, the government will be signing three or four contracts with the government of Canada for the CBD-managed Canada Funded Project which will take care of the construction of schools and other government projects across Dominica.

The prime minister further emphasized that it makes no sense to lay new concrete on old ones where a new and befitting school structure would be preferable. He said discussions are in top gear over the proposed construction project and that the people of Mahaut will see and sign off on the new school design before construction starts.

The Mahaut Primary School suffered a hit three years during the devastation of Hurricane Maria and is yet to be fully renovated or reconstructed.
