The Newtown Juvenile Football Academy (NJFA) has recently completed a two-week Summer Football Enhancement Programme held at Newtown Primary School and the Newtown Savannah. The event held from July 27 to August 8 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. According to the organizers, the summer enhancement training provided young athletes with the opportunity to undergo intensive sporting activities since the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.
“COVID-19 brought a halt to sporting activities all over the world and Dominica was no exception. Our sportsmen, women, boys and girls were longing for permission from authorities to resume training and competition,” NJFA stated. “The students of the Newtown Juvenile Football Academy, all with “itchy feet” were eager to get back onto the field. They possess tremendous reserves of energy that has been stored up for four months just waiting to be released.”
Event coordinator, Albert Titre, said the programme was a success given that students were taught amazing skills in football, laws governing the sport of football, public speaking performances, national history of Dominica, and the contributions of past legends to sporting development in the country.
He added that the structured manner in which the event was organized aided its overall success, and that people as well as participating organizations testified to the accomplishments. Titre said the life skills and technical sporting knowledge imparted to the participants would take them far ahead in life as well as promote their sporting skills. He thanked sponsors who facilitated the success of the programme as well as parents who gave their supports.
“I want to express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the many sponsors and to those who ensured the success of the program,” Titre said. “Special mention must be made of Perky’s Pizza, Digicel, Fine Foods Inc., NCCU, Josephine Gabriel and Company, Sports Division, the Government of Dominica, FCIB, Olive’s Ever Fresh Products, Harris Paints and Roseau South MP, Shekira Hypolite. We want to thank the many parents and students for giving their full support and cooperation.”
