Nigerian National Imprisoned for Seven Years After Swallowing Cocaine Pellets
Commendations are in order for the vigilant customs officials in Dominica who successfully intercepted a drug trafficking attempt by a Nigerian national. The individual, Osarumwense Ibuze, was detained at Roseau’s Ferry Terminal on July 2, 2023, as he exhibited suspicious behavior during the inspection of his baggage and during subsequent questioning.
To investigate further, Ibuze was transported to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) for an internal body scan. The scan uncovered an alarming discovery: 81 packets, suspected to be cocaine, concealed within his stomach. Ibuze was kept at the hospital to safely expel the hidden packets, which later tested positive for cocaine.
Upon this confirmation, Ibuze was officially arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation. He was subsequently charged with possession and trafficking of cocaine, to which he was scheduled to respond at a court hearing.
Ibuze faced his charges at the Magistrate’s court in Roseau on July 7, 2023. Pleading guilty to the offenses, he received a seven-year prison sentence for his illicit actions. Ibuze’s conviction serves as a testament to the diligent efforts of Dominica’s customs officials in combatting drug trafficking and preserving the security of their nation.
