NIRC’s, Valley Joseph is against Having Buju Banton Perform During the 2019 WCMF

Jamaican dancehall and Reggae Superstar Mark Myrie, popularly known as Buju Banton, has been scheduled to perform in the upcoming 2019 World Creole Music Festival (WCMF). But manager of the Nature Island Recovery Center (NIRC), Vanley Joseph, contended that Buju Banton is an ex-convict and must not be invited to the show slated later this year, on October 25-27.

WCMF-2019-Buju-BntonNIRC is a drug rehabilitation center operated by local Dominica owners. Manager Vanley Joseph stated that Buju Banton went to prison for drug-related offences and not fit for the WCMF event.

“At present, Buju Banton is known to be a drug dealer,” Vanley Joseph said. “He was caught setting up a drug deal. Buju Banton spent time in jail, and as we speak, he is on probation. We are here trying to get the youths of Dominica off drugs. And just look around Roseau and see different youths standing up at supermarkets, begging people for money. That shows you the impact cocaine is having on the youths of Dominica; and here you are bringing Buju Banton to Dominica and refer to him as an icon – a man that was caught, convicted and spent time in jail. So we at the Nature Island Recovery Center object to that strongly.”

Other musicians scheduled to play at the event include –

  • Gordon Henderson
  • Exile One
  • Colton T
  • WCK Band
  • Asa Bantan
