The National Joint Action Movement (NJAM) has been reformed and reconstituted. The movement was relaunched on January 1, 2022 after new executives were appointed on December 1, 2021. The relaunching event was held online and via a radio programme.
Anthony LeBlanc was the interim executive chairman of the movement, but the position is now held by Kent Vital who is the new chairman. Vice-chairman Severin McKenzie said NJAM is open to all categories of individuals, social organizations, trade unions, religious organizations, and even political parties.
McKenzie expressed dismay that Dominica is still suffering from colonial mentality and that has impacted the way the government is run. He said with more than 40 years of independence, the country is still reeling in economic and political mismanagement to the detriment of its peoples. He said the citizenry must reawaken to taking their destiny in their own hands and to create the future they want going forward.
“As we approach the 50th anniversary as an independent nation, there is much concern about the state of the Commonwealth of Dominica,” McKenzie said. “And the assessment can be done through some self-examination by just taking an honest look at the various facets of development in our country, or we can simply compare with our neighbours within the OECS and CARICOM to see how well we are doing, or not doing.
“The prevailing conditions in the country are not good for the wellbeing of the population, and there are clear indications of devastating effects of such conditions…a high level of anger exists within the population; and it if continues, we may witness an annihilation of the population which will be replaced by the obvious conquerors who are quietly taking over. History has shown that entire populations have been displaced and the prospect of Dominica going through this process is not far-fetched…”
