No More Legal Requirement for Anyone to Wear Masks in Dominica – Skerrit

The government has removed the mask mandate in Dominica. No one is legally required to wear face masks anymore across the country – except for those in the hospitality business. PM Roosevelt Skerrit said people are free to wear face masks if they want, but it shall no longer be a legal requirement in schools, offices, markets, and on the streets.

At a cabinet meeting on Tuesday 18th, the Cabinet took a decision to remove the mask mandate in Dominica. So there is no more legal requirement for anyone in Dominica to wear a mask. What we are saying also is you are free to wear it if you so wish. There will be people one way or the other who wish to wear their mask and they are free to do so.

Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica

The prime minister said that this new policy does not extend to people in the food and beverage business; and that personnel must continue to wear masks when serving food and drinks to guests or customers.

However, we have maintained that the people who are involved in the food and beverage business should be wearing their masks when they are serving their patrons. This is going to become a permanent fixture in the food handlers licenses and the operations of food and beverage enterprises in Dominica.

The prime minister said this new development is based on “recognizing the trends with the numbers.”
