North East Comprehensive School loses 3-0 to PSS in U17 Football Championship

The Cinderella run of the North East Comprehensive School came to a hault today Wednesday 15th January 2020 in the finals of the U17 Sports Division Secondary Schools Football competition at Benjamin Park in Portsmouth.

North East Comprehensive School playing in their first finals ever was brought back to earth by the Portsmouth Secondary School with a 3 goals to nil defeat. The NECS put on a fighting effort but were beaten by a much more organized and experienced team.

The PSS boast of several players of the Portsmouth Premier team in their lineup and their experience and level of play was a major contributing factor in their victory.

Portsmouth Secondary School took the lead in the 15th minute of play after Kadimel Paul expertly went round the defender of the left flank and put in a left footed cross for Julie Henry who made no mistake in finding the back of the NECS goal. The NECS did not show to much in offence in the first half of play they were to defensive not enough players in attack. The first half ended PSS 1 NECS 0.

The North East Comprehensive School had a more offensive showing in the second half, they sent a few more players in attack and created a few scoring opportunities for themselves. However this opened them up a bit at the back and some strong defending by their defenders and Goalkeeper kept them in the game until the 54 th minute, when Omari Bazil finished up the brilliant dribbling and crossing effort of Julie Henry on the right flank to make it 2 nil PSS.

Most Valuable Player of the final Tyriq Joseph made it 3 nil in the 77th minute when he controlled in the Heart of the NECS defence turned and dribbled passed two defenders and placed a right footer to the left of the NECS Goalkeeper sealing the U17 Championship for the PSS.

The Champion School PSS received the Championship Trophy, Gold Medals and a Football complement the Sports Division.

The Runner’s up NECS received the second place Silver Medals.

Edgar Alexander of the NECS received the George Carrington award for Best Defender of the final.

Julie Henry of PSS received the George Carrington award for the Best Goal of the final.

Tyriq Joseph of PSS received the George Carrington award for the Most Valuable Player of the final.

Congratulation to the Portsmouth Secondary School on winning the 2019/20 Sports Division Secondary Schools U17 Championship.

All the individual Trophies were Sponsored by Former National Goalkeeper Mr. George Carrington who resides in Canada.
