NYCD and CRYC Celebrate Caribbean Youth Day with Focus on Socio-Edu Development

NYCD and CRYC celebrate Caribbean Youth Day with focus on socio-edu development. The National Youth Council of Dominica (NYCD) and the Caribbean Regional Youth Council (CRYC) together with other youth groups are celebrating the Caribbean Youth Day. This year’s them is “Confronting the Social Issues Impacting Education for an Economically Sustainable Region.”

NYCD President, Paul Baron, said this year’s commemoration is centered on empowering the teeming Dominican youths in the areas of social awareness and quality education with a view to impacting the economy. He said as the official umbrella youth organization in the country, NYCD is committed to ensuring that the government, civil societies, corporate agencies and the general society are responsible for protecting the youth populace.

Baron made it clear that youths are the future of any country and that they must be safeguarded as natural treasures if there must be continuity in any society. He disclosed that the government must facilitate gainful employment and productive activities for youths so that social vices and violence may become a thing of history in the region.

Speaking on projected development for youths, Baron said the NYCD and Climate Resilience Execution Agency for Dominica (CREAD) collaborated during Caribbean Youth Day activities to launch the Strong Minds, Strong Bodies project.

“This program is a holistic, regular scheduled out-of-school activities for children geared towards opening their minds, fostering their creativity, physical fitness, well-being, confidence and self-esteem, contributing to resilient mindsets,” Baron said.

He noted that the testing phase of the project will take off in Newtown, Soufriere and Kalinago Territory communities before extending to parts of the country. He said all parents and guardians should invest in youths by making homes and schools safe and child-friendly for them. He said this is the only way the younger can hope to take over from the ageing population and carry on the legacies of the older visionaries in all aspects of national life.
