Olympic Hero Thea Lafond-Gadson to be Feted in Dominica: A Week of Celebrations

Dominica is set to honour Olympic Gold Medalist Thea Lafond-Gadson with celebratory events from August 24 to September 4, 2024.

Thea Lafond-Gadson made history by winning Dominica’s first Olympic medal and securing Gold in the Triple Jump at the recent Summer Olympics in Paris. Olympians, Dennick Luke, Warren Lawrence, and Jasmine Schofield will also be recognized for representing Dominica.

The celebrations will commence on Saturday, August 24, with Thea’s arrival at Douglas Charles Airport at 2:00 pm. A welcome ceremony will be held at the VIP Lounge, where government officials, dignitaries, and family members will gather to greet the Olympic Champion.

On Sunday, August 25, the festivities continue with a motorcade starting at 1:30 pm in Portsmouth, traveling along the scenic West Coast to Roseau. This event will allow the public to show appreciation for Thea as she makes her way to the capital city. The day will culminate in a grand celebration ceremony and concert at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium Forecourt at 5:00 pm, featuring speeches from government and sports officials and musical performances. The public is invited to attend and honour Thea’s historic achievement.

On Tuesday, August 27, Thea will pay a courtesy call to the Honourable Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit and an official cocktail reception will be held in her honour on the evening of Wednesday, August 28, at the State House Conference Center. “Building a Resilient Public Service: A Collective Response” During her stay in Dominica, Thea will visit various primary and secondary schools, as well as the Dominica State College, to engage with students and inspire the next generation of athletes and leaders.
