One Suspect in Custody after the Murder of 86-Year-Old Woman in Woodford Hill
A male suspect has been taken into police custody after the murder of an 86-year-old woman in Woodford Hill. Police Inspector John Carbon said the victim, Bernadette Nicholas, was found murdered on Thursday, January 7, 2021, in her home with multiple stab wounds to her body at about 8:15 p.m.
The local media has dubbed the murder the first homicide of 2021.
Nicholas was originally from Grand Bay but resided in Woodford Hill. The suspect, Elbert Edwards, is allegedly from Marigot and also resides in Woodford Hill. He is said to be her common-law partner.
After the police was called in to the scene, Nicholas was moved to the Wesley Health Centre were she was declared dead by a medical examiner. Her body was thereafter transferred to North Eastern Funeral Home for an autopsy.
Inspector Carbon said the police have commenced investigations into the case and would be making their report public in due course. He said the Edwards is cooperating with the investigations.
“The police is conducting investigations into a homicide which occurred in the village of Woodford Hill on Thursday, January 7, 2021,” he said. “She was transported to the Wesley Health Center where she was examined by the medical doctor and was pronounced dead. She sustained multiple stab wounds to her body.”
