Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr. Carissa Etienne, has offered her support for the passing of a new hospital authority bill in Dominica. The bill will ensure that healthcare provision on the island is hassle-free, efficient, and qualitative to all persons.
Dr. Etienne said the passage of the proposed bill will raise the standard of healthcare in Dominica and place the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) on a new pedestal. She urged healthcare managers across the country to uphold standardized medical ethics, and executives of DCFH to work together for the betterment of the hospital and healthcare delivery in the country.
I think a CEO who has overall responsibility for the management of the hospital, with full authority for enforcing policy, accountability, and human resource management will be a better model, as long as it is done properly. Quality of care encompasses numerous issues in terms of investments and governance as well as development of secondary and tertiary care and functions.”

She urged government agencies and the general public to continue to adhere to recommended protocols with a view to eliminating the pandemic in Dominica.
