Parliament Dissolved; Dec 6 is Elections Day; New Candidates to Emerge Nov 8

In his pursuit of a new “National Reset,” PM Roosevelt Skerrit in collaboration with President Charles Savarin has dissolved the parliament on Sunday, November 6.

In a live broadcast to the entire nation, the prime minister announced that a fresh writ for a new general elections will be issued on Monday, November 7; that new DLP candidates for a new government cabinet will be showcased on Tuesday, November 8; Nomination Day is set for Friday, November 18; and the DLP will seek “a fresh mandate with a fresh team” on Tuesday, December 6.

With that in mind, I shall lead a new-look Dominica Labour Party into fresh general elections that will be held at the soonest possible time. I want for the year 2023 to begin with a fresh mandate, given to a fresh Labour team, to commence the work of building post-COVID Dominica.

Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica

With the current government constituted in April 2019, the prime minister said it is time to reshuffle the cabinet and bring in new faces to lead the country for the next 10-15 years. Having led the country for 22 years, Skerrit he looks forward to serving the country till 2025 as prime minister – but not beyond that date.

It is my intention to stay on for another two and a half years, if it is your will. You have given me a mandate that constitutionally allows me to remain in office as your Prime Minister until April, 2025. I do not intend to go beyond that date. I have run my race and I intend to finish the course, with Dominica safely back on a road of sustained progress and prosperity. That is why I am calling for a National Reset!

Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica

While stating that a new government team will be resetting the social, economic, cultural, and political destiny of a Dynamic Dominica, Skerrit that “I would like, however, to preside over a peaceful and dignified transition of Prime Ministerial leadership to someone of my party and my colleagues’ choosing.” He stated that the new leadership team will reshape, adjust, and correct the navigational course of the nation towards full recovery in a post-COVID-19 era.
