Penville Primary School Tops 2024 GSAT National Exams in Dominica

The Penville Primary School has emerged as the top-performing institution in the 2024 Grade Six National Assessment (G6NA). Out of the five students who sat the exams from this school, four were awarded scholarships. This year, a total of 820 students, including 413 males and 407 females, participated in the exams, with three independent candidates also taking part.

The Government of Dominica has awarded 79 scholarships and 70 bursaries based on this year’s results. Scholarships were granted to students who achieved a total of 18, 19, or 20 points, while bursaries were given to those with totals of 16 or 17 points.

Maia Bertrand, a student of the Ebenezer Seventh-Day Adventist Primary School, topped the GSAT National exams. During a press conference at the Public Service Union (PSU) Building, Bertrand expressed her surprise and gratitude for her achievement, attributing her success to practice and divine assistance. Bertrand will attend the Arthur Waldron Seventh-Day Academy in the upcoming academic year and thanked her parents and teachers for their support.

Thierry Lauture of St. Mary’s Primary placed second. Lauture, who plans to continue his education at Saint Mary’s Academy (SMA), expressed pride in his achievement and encouraged future students to follow their dreams and work hard. Lauture’s mother, Jacelyn Lauture, emphasized the importance of parental support in achieving academic success.

D’Andre Barrie of the Ebenezer Seventh-Day Adventist Primary School placed third and expressed his excitement about receiving a scholarship. He credited his success to thorough preparation and support from his parents and teachers. Barrie advised upcoming students to persevere through challenges.

Ken-G Delsol of the Kelleb John Laurent Primary School secured the fourth position, while Qitara Beaupierre of Pioneer Preparatory School placed fifth. Beaupierre, who plans to attend the Dominica Grammar School and become a lawyer, advised students to study when their minds are fresh and take breaks when needed. Her father, Andy Beaupierre, expressed pride in her achievement.

Principal of St. Mary’s Primary, Norissa Peter, was elated with the school’s performance, highlighting the dedication of the teachers and the diligent efforts of the students.

The Ministry of Education awarded scholarships to students with outstanding performance and bursaries to those who met specific criteria. The aim is to encourage academic excellence and provide support to deserving students. This year’s results highlight the significant achievements of Dominica’s young scholars and the dedicated efforts of their educators and families.
