Petrol Will Be Delivered This Weekend, Govt Spoke with Ship Captain – Skerrit

PM Roosevelt Skerrit disclosed that gasoline will be delivered to Dominica this weekend. He said administration officials spoke with the captain of the ship bringing the commodity to the country and he assured that he will make delivery this weekend. He revealed that the ship will be coming directly to Dominica upon leaving St. Kitts and Nevis where it is presently offloading some products.

We expect the boat to come in either tonight or tomorrow morning, certainly tomorrow morning. So the government spoke directly, not only with the agent there, but we spoke directly to the ship captain. That’s the extent through which we have been making efforts to get the product there. And the captain told us that he is waiting to offload, to discharge in St. Kitts and the next stop on his itinerary is Dominica.

Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica

The government had earlier promised that fuel products will be delivered to Dominica on December 22, 25, and 27. The prime minister said Dominica also looks forward to shipping fuel directly from Venezuela when economic sanctions are lifted on the South American nation. He said that up to three shipments were delivered from Venezuela in the last few months, but shipments will be more regular once sanctions are lifted.

Skerrit also said that the DLP administration will set up a storage facility for fuel products at Petro Caribe and that a national reserve will also go a long way to ensuring fuel availability in the country. He said with a storage facility and national reserve available for use, Dominicans will no longer be stranded when shipping suppliers are hampered from delivering the products in time to Dominica.

Skerrit added that this will complement the efforts of commercial fuel stations and not to compete with their business. Meanwhile, the opposition continues to lampoon the government for the fuel scarcity on the Island and to berate them for the difficulties that citizens are facing to acquire the product. Chief among the critics are the DPSU, UWP, DFP, and other prominent citizens within and outside the country.
